Face type, body frame, personal colour — what each one tells you

Face type, body frame ("kokkaku"), personal colour. All three are widely used, and all three look at something different. Here is what each one contributes when you are choosing jewelry.

Face type — the impression of shape

Face type reads your features on two axes: youthful to mature, and curved to straight. Are your features mostly rounded, or mostly linear?

This maps directly onto the shape of a piece. Rounded motifs tend to sit well with curved features; angular motifs and clean lines with straighter ones. The effect is strongest for earrings and necklaces, which sit close to the face.

Body frame — texture and volume

Frame diagnosis looks at the structure of your body: depth through the torso, how visible the joints are. It is usually divided into straight, wave and natural.

For jewelry this mostly governs texture and volume. Polished metal suits some people, fine and delicate pieces others, and matte pieces with presence others again. The same shape reads differently depending on its finish.

Personal colour — the colour itself

Personal colour groups the tones that suit you into four seasons, based on the warmth and the depth of your colouring.

With natural stone jewelry this simply becomes the choice of stone. The same design changes character entirely with a different stone colour.

Our diagnosis combines all three

The jewelry fit diagnosis reads face type and colouring from a photo, and determines your frame type from a few questions. Eight face types by three frame types gives twenty-four types, and the four personal colour seasons sit on top — so the suggestions match on shape, texture and colour together.

The photo is analysed entirely on your own device. It is never uploaded or stored. The whole thing takes a minute or two.

Every result has its own page, so you can share the link as it is, and each result page shows pieces that match the combination.

None of this is a rule

These are gentle indications of what tends to suit, not instructions. They are no reason to give up a colour or a shape you love. In our own diagnosis, the questions about your taste deliberately do not affect the result — they come back as separate notes.

Use it as a way in when you are unsure, and then choose the colour that draws you.
